Importance of dental cleanings for a healthy smile.
In order to keep your mouth healthy, it is important to regularly remove plaque, which is home to the bacteria that can lead to cavities and gum disease. Our office highly encourages patients to schedule professional dental cleanings twice a year. This will enable our hygienist to thoroughly remove any built-up plaque, tartar, and food particles from your teeth and gums.
Benefits of routine dental cleanings include:
- Ensure your smile stays fresh and clean
- Guard against cavities and maintain your periodontal health
- Aid in reversing gingivitis and rejuvenating gum health
- Promote your overall health and well-being
What can you anticipate during a dental cleaning?
There are two main methods for dental cleanings: hand instruments and ultrasonic scalers. Hand instruments scrape off deposits from the teeth, while ultrasonic scalers use water and vibrations. Our hygienist may use a combination of both methods for optimal results.
During a routine dental cleaning, the focus is on the surface areas around the tooth's neck, staying above or slightly below the gumline. This procedure is typically pain-free and simple. However, for patients with sensitive teeth or other dental issues that may cause discomfort, we can use topical numbing gels or local anesthesia.
