Wisdom Tooth Extraction
Here at Kaio Dental, we prioritize the health of your teeth and gums. When it comes to tooth extraction, we take a thoughtful approach. Our main goal is to protect your natural teeth, so if we recommend extraction, it is for a valid reason.
If extraction is necessary, we will clearly explain why and how it will benefit your overall oral health in the long run.
Why do dentists recommend tooth extraction?
- Severe tooth decay
- Advanced gum disease
- Dental abscess or infection
- A tooth has broken off below the gum line.
- Crowded or impacted wisdom teeth
Wisdom Teeth Removal
Not everyone has issues with their wisdom teeth, but for many, there isn't enough space in the jaw for them to come in properly. This can lead to pain, overcrowding, or even impacted teeth growing underneath other molars.
The method for extracting wisdom teeth depends on whether they have fully emerged or are impacted. If the tooth isn't impacted, removal is typically straightforward. However, if the tooth is impacted, surgical removal may be required.
Our team will evaluate your situation and suggest wisdom teeth removal if it's deemed necessary.
Tooth Extraction Self-Care
- Following your procedure, it is crucial to allow your body time to heal and recuperate, so be sure to take the remainder of the day off.
- After the extraction, we will place sterile gauze on the site. It is recommended to bite down on it for about an hour or until the bleeding ceases. Then, replace it with fresh gauze.
- Avoid smoking or using a straw as these actions can disrupt the protective clot that forms over the extraction site.
- Consider opting for a soft food diet for the next few days. Foods like pudding, cooled soup, broth, and yogurt are all good choices.
- Continue with your regular teeth brushing routine, but be careful to steer clear of the extraction site.
