Your first orthodontic appointment
If you are new to visiting an orthodontist, you may be uncertain about what to anticipate during your initial appointment. At Kaio Dental, we prioritize treating the entire individual, not just their smile. Prior to commencing orthodontic treatment, it is essential to verify your overall health. If you do not currently have a dentist, we can recommend one at our practice. It is possible that you may require fillings or gum treatments to guarantee the health of your teeth and gums before starting orthodontic treatment.
The First Step
Our primary goal is to understand your specific concerns and expectations regarding your teeth, your child's teeth, smile, and facial appearance. By gaining insight into your desires and needs, we can work together to achieve the results you are looking for.
The Second Step
The next step in the process is a complimentary orthodontic consultation with DR. Chonway D Tram During this appointment, Dr. Tram will evaluate your facial structure, teeth, jaw joint, and the alignment of your lower and upper teeth to determine if immediate treatment is necessary. If no treatment is needed, regular yearly visits to the dentist will be recommended. If orthodontic treatment is necessary, it will be thoroughly discussed and explained before proceeding to the next step.
In certain cases, children as young as seven may require early orthodontic treatment to address dental and facial growth issues. Dr. Tram can identify these irregularities and provide Phase One orthodontic treatment between the ages of seven and nine to guide your child's growth and development, potentially avoiding the need for adult tooth extraction. If Phase One treatment is not needed, your child will be placed in our RECALL SYSTEM at no cost, allowing us to monitor their growth and development to prevent future issues.
The Third Step
If treatment is necessary, Dr. Tram will discuss her findings with you and go over various options for addressing the issues and the benefits of these corrections. Our Treatment Coordinator will document Dr. Tram's recommendations in your patient file and create a summary of findings, estimated costs, and treatment timeline. They will address any concerns you may have and answer any questions you may ask. Once a treatment plan is decided upon, our Treatment Coordinator will review all details with you and assist in setting up a payment plan that meets your needs.
The Fourth Step
In order to begin treatment, we need documentation of your current condition. This usually involves diagnostic photos, x-rays, and impressions. The impressions are used to make stone "study models" that display the alignment of your teeth in both your upper and lower jaws. These records are crucial for confirming the doctor's diagnosis and treatment plan, as well as documenting the position of your teeth and profile before starting orthodontic treatment. Records are also taken after treatment is completed.
